Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) is a separation technique similar to gas and liquid chromatography, but using a supercritical fluid as mobile phase. If a liquid or a gas is used above its critical temperature and pressure, it changes to a supercritical fluid.

Compared to liquid, supercritical fluids have low viscosities and high diffusivities. In this report, starting from the basic principles of supercritical fluid chromatography, we introduce examples of high-speed, high-resolution analysis and Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC) . . . an exact analog of gas chromatography or liquid chromatography. The supercritical fluid acts as a solvent.

Mass Spectrometry-based Neuroproteomics:  Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) is a form of normal phase chromatography that uses a supercritical fluid such as carbon dioxide as the mobile phase. It is used for the analysis and purification of low to moderate molecular weight, thermally labile molecules and can also be used for the separation of chiral compounds. Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) is a separation technique similar to gas and liquid chromatography, but using a supercritical fluid as mobile phase. If a liquid or a gas is used above its critical temperature and pressure, it changes to a supercritical fluid. Supercritical fluid chromatography is accepted as a column chromatography methods along with gas chromatography (GC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

However the viscosity is lower so we This review acquaints the role of supercritical fluid chromatography within the field of lipid analysis, from the early developed capillary separations based on pure CO 2, to the most recent techniques employing packed columns under subcritical conditions, including the niche multidimensional techniques using supercritical fluids in at least one of the separation dimensions. Introduction. Before SFC was coupled to mass spectrometers, systems used both UV and flame ionization detectors (FID). This may not seem intuitive, however, when one considers that supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) is essentially a hybrid of gas chromatography and liquid chromatography (supercritical CO 2 is composed of gaseous carbon dioxide molecules pressed as closely together as Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) uses a supercritical fluid as an extraction solvent. Selective extraction can be made by exploiting the properties of differential solubility of target analytes in a wide variety of matrices.

Some users have considered this technique to be superior to other forms of chromatography such as gas and liquid chromatography while others have found SFC to be lacking in terms of reproducibility, sensitivity, and general predictability of retention behavior.

2018-06-26 · The Plus Side of Supercritical Fluid Chromatography. We already know that SFC is fast. But thanks to the lower viscosity of CO2 versus your typical reverse phase, normal phase, or HILIC solvents, one can ramp up the flow rate and achieve satisfactory chromatography in a fraction of the time.
